PAN Amsterdam 2024: a triumph of art and culture at the RAI Centre with a successful opening weekend and record attendance

The 37th edition of PAN Amsterdam, in The Netherlands, one of the most prestigious fairs dedicated to art, antiques, and design, kicked off with an extraordinary opening weekend. Over 11,000 visitors flocked to Amsterdam’s RAI Centre, setting a record of 1,510 attendees in a single hour.

The official opening on Saturday, November 23, was led by the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema. In celebration of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, she toasted with a historic glass engraved with the city’s coat of arms and the inscription “het Wel Zijn Von Amsterdam et die het Regeren”. Sunday brought another special guest, Saint Nicholas, the city’s patron saint, who toured the fair accompanied by three of his assistants.

A Broader and High-Quality Offering
This year, PAN Amsterdam brings together 125 art dealers, antique specialists, and galleries, offering an impressive selection ranging from contemporary art and design to Old Masters, photography, and jewellery. Spanning over 5,000 years of art history, the fair continues to captivate art lovers with its diversity and excellence.

A key highlight of this edition is the participation of 16 notable newcomers, such as Slewe Gallery and Gerhard Hofland from Amsterdam, alongside The Frozen Fountain for design, and Stylo Gallery from Bennebroek, specializing in vintage posters. Other prestigious additions include Alain Hens Gallery from Antwerp and Snackers Antiques & Fine Arts from Maastricht.

Quality Assurance and Cultural Significance
To maintain its high standards, PAN Amsterdam employs a team of 80 independent judges who meticulously evaluate the authenticity and quality of all exhibited works. This rigorous vetting process ensures that visitors and collectors can trust the items on display, solidifying the fair’s reputation as a hub for high-calibre art and antiques.

Mark Grol, Director of PAN Amsterdam, expressed pride in the event’s continued growth and cultural significance: “In recent years, PAN Amsterdam has undoubtedly established itself as a vital platform for collectors and art enthusiasts, both local and international, united by their shared passion for art.

A Cultural Meeting Place for All Art Lovers
PAN Amsterdam has become much more than a marketplace; it is a cultural meeting point where art enthusiasts gather to celebrate their shared appreciation for creativity. With over 40,000 visitors expected by the fair’s end, it serves as a vital connection between artists, galleries, collectors, and the broader art community.

The extensive range of offerings at PAN Amsterdam covers various disciplines, from contemporary and modern art to classical design and ancient artefacts. This broad appeal ensures that the fair caters to diverse tastes, attracting both seasoned collectors and those discovering art for the first time.

A Weeklong Celebration of Art
Running until December 1, 2024, at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam, this edition of PAN Amsterdam promises a rich and dynamic experience for attendees. Its engaging atmosphere, coupled with the variety and quality of the exhibits, reaffirms the fair as a cornerstone of the Dutch and international art markets.
