Showcasing Growth at Landscape Istanbul Fair 2024
The previous third edition of the Landscape Istanbul Fair (LIF), held from November 13–16 at the Istanbul Fair Centre, demonstrated the dynamic growth of the regional landscaping and horticultural sectors. Organized by Athena Fairs Inc., the event spanned 6,800 square meters and welcomed 114 exhibitors from Türkiye and abroad. The fair attracted 4,971 professional attendees, representing municipalities, urban planners, contractors, nursery owners, architects, and engineers from 48 countries, marking a 14% increase in international participation compared to 2023.

Growth and Geographical Reach
The fair demonstrated a 37.6% increase in visitor numbers from the previous year, reflecting its growing reputation as a central hub for the green industry. Professionals from major Turkish cities like Istanbul, Izmir, and Antalya joined counterparts from Europe (45.7% of international attendees) and the Middle East (20.5%). The event also highlighted the critical role of green infrastructure in urban planning, with discussions tailored to address the needs of municipalities (41.3% of attendees), followed by building and construction professionals, floriculturists, and architects.
Ayça Yavuz, Fair Director, emphasized LIF’s expanding role in fostering global connections and serving as a vital platform for showcasing advancements in ornamental horticulture and sustainable landscaping solutions.

Key Highlights and Trends
Soft and Hard Landscaping Innovations
LIF 2024 presented cutting-edge products and services, including ornamental plants, irrigation systems, and landscape machinery. Exhibitors showcased solutions tailored to the Mediterranean climate, emphasizing drought-resilient species and water-saving technologies. These innovations directly address climate challenges faced by municipalities and urban planners.

Integration of Climate Adaptation Strategies
The World Urban Parks Symposium, held in conjunction with the fair, featured high-level discussions on urban sustainability. Experts explored how green spaces mitigate climate impacts, improve water resource management, and foster community well-being. The keynote by Tim Geyer, Deputy Chair of World Urban Parks, set the tone for technical presentations and panels, which included insights from Turkish municipal leaders and global experts.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
This year’s Symposium program received strong backing from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Parks, Gardens, and Green Areas (IBB), allowing delegates to gain valuable insights from the experiences and recommendations of Prof. Dr. Hanci, Head of the Department, and Dr. Tepe, Deputy Manager of Green Istanbul (IBB). A particularly dynamic panel discussion featuring representatives from four of Türkiye’s municipalities—Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir, and Gaziantep—showcased the passionate debates on urban greening and public space management. This candid exchange provided the audience with meaningful perspectives on the challenges planners face as they strive to foster healthier, greener, and more livable cities.
