The Magnani-Rocca Foundation, considered one of Europe’s most prestigious private art institutions, houses Luigi Magnani’s extraordinary collection, which includes masterpieces by Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Tiziano, Goya, Canova, and the most significant body of works by Giorgio Morandi. Each year, the Foundation welcomes thousands of visitors who come to admire both its permanent collection and its acclaimed temporary exhibitions.
Flowers, with their ephemeral beauty and layered symbolism, have inspired generations of artists. FLORA celebrates this timeless muse by tracing the portrayal of flowers in Italian art from the late 19th century to the present day. The exhibition reveals the flower as more than a mere ornament: it is a metaphor for grace, sensuality, fragility, and renewal.

Highlights include Segantini’s delicate hydrangeas, Previati’s vibrant dahlias, Depero’s fantastical floral explosions, Casorati’s hypnotic bouquets, and Morandi’s iconic roses. Each work reflects a deeply personal interpretation, turning a simple blossom into a world of poetic meaning.
Far from being a simple showcase of still lifes, FLORA is a captivating journey through major artistic movements: Symbolism, Futurism, Magic Realism, Abstraction, and the innovations of contemporary art. For Boldini, a flower embodies elegance; for de Pisis, it captures life’s fleeting nature; for Morandi, it becomes an object of quiet reflection. These varied perspectives illuminate how artists transform flowers into symbols of both inner worlds and universal truths.
The Villa dei Capolavori itself enhances this enchanting journey. Within its refined neoclassical rooms, visitors discover floral masterpieces in dialogue with historical treasures by Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Tiziano, Goya, Canova, Rubens, Van Dyck, and more — a testament to Luigi Magnani’s vision of a home dedicated to the contemplation of beauty.
In addition to works by Segantini, Previati, and Morandi, visitors will find paintings and sculptures by Chini, Balla, Boccioni, Severini, Depero, Wildt, de Chirico, Savinio, Casorati, Donghi, de Pisis, Carrà, Campigli, Mafai, Guttuso, Fontana, Schifano, Kounellis, Paolini, and other masters. A special section is dedicated to the rose, featuring exquisite interpretations by Morandi, Funi, Oppi, Cagnaccio, Pirandello, and Mafai.
FLORA is curated by Daniela Ferrari and Stefano Roffi and organised in collaboration with the Mart Museum of Trento and Rovereto. Major Italian museums and private collections have lent key works, making this one of the most comprehensive exhibitions dedicated to flowers in Italian art.
Do not miss this poetic immersion into the world of blossoms and brushstrokes — open only until June 29, 2025, at the Magnani-Rocca Foundation, a true gem of the Italian art world.
