Mediterranean creations on the French riviera

After the success of the first edition and its media impact, at the national and european level, the Festival is renewed for a second edition in April 2019 with a competition of landscape creations. Candidates selected by a technical committee will achieve ephemeral works on the most beautiful sites of the Côte d’Azur. The Garden Festival will be held from March 30th to April 28th, 2019. The second edition will again be an opportunity to highlight the exceptional gardens on the coastline of the Alpes-Maritimes. In 2019, Marina Picasso, granddaughter of the painter Pablo Picasso, will be the godmother of the Côte d’Azur Gardens Festival and will have the honour, with the jury, to elect the winner. For the new edition the theme will be: “Mediterranean dreams” and invites to an initiatory stroll in a plant universe around the Mediterranean, a world of gardens: Provençal gardens, Italian gardens, reflecting the magic of the Renaissance, gardens evoking ancient Greece, Maghreb gardens and oasis of greenery. It’s an opportunity to discover history and  exceptional heritage experiences of the Côte d’Azur in prestigious places.

This theme offers the opportunity to decline the art of gardens under different approaches. The creations will be a reflection of the wealth and the diversity of the Mediterranean lands. Every garden will propose an architecture, a plant palette, a balance between plants, a showcase for works of art and a space of freedom for the imagination. 23 ephemeral gardens, free of access, are proposed to visitors with 15 landscape creations as part of competition and 8 temporary ephemeral gardens. The creations of national and international teams, have been selected by a technical committee chaired by Jean Mus, spokesman of the Festival. The gardens are placed on the five common partners: Antibes Juan-les-Pins, Gould pine forest; Cannes, Garden of the Villa Rothschild;  Grasse, Garden of the Villa Fragonard; Chin, Bioves Garden;  Nice, Jardin Albert 1er on the Promenade du Paillon.  The municipalities welcomes 3 landscaping creations of 200 m2 each, making a total of 15 gardens in competition. The creations will be appreciated by 3 juries and 4 prizes will be awarded: the jury prize, the professional prize, the prize of the press and the “GREEN Deal” prize awarded to the garden more ecological. For this 2nd edition, the Principality of Monaco proposes also an ephemeral garden “out of competition”, with free access and in connection with the theme of the Festival. On the site of Antibes Juan-les-Pins, it’s possible to discover the “jellyfish”, a poetic and mysterious garden. This garden “School”, will be realized by the Pôle de formations Vert d’Azur, in partnership with the National Union of Enterprises of the Landscape. In Nice, Stéphane Marie, the passionate presenter the show “Silence, ça pousse! » makes his “flying carpet”. An ephemeral garden will also be created for the occasion by the famous landscape architect Michel Pena at Cap 3000 and a ephemeral landscaping will be to discover Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (arrivals terminal 2) realized by the Parks and Gardens Department of Menton, as well as a plant space at the tourist office of Cannes. To complete the festival, itineraries around the sites will allow to extend the dream of Mediterranean in the world of gardens. More than 350 animations, open house, visits guided tours, lectures and workshops will be offered by the Department. For culture lovers, a program of conferences on gardens, the Mediterranean and the sustainable development will be proposed during these four week of festival. With the map of Gardens and Parks of the Côte d’Azur, available in the tourist offices, it’s possible to discover the 75 gardens open to the public of which 12 have been labeled “Remarkable Garden”.
